The new Mayor of North Lincolnshire will be making visits to Brigg over the next 12 months to attend various functions and to support events.
Coun John Briggs was elected to the prestigious post at the unitary authority's mid-May annual meeting.
He has chaired the Humberside Fire Authority for the past 12 years and is a long-serving North Lincolnshire councillor for one of the Isle of Axholme wards.
He will undertake Mayoral duties with his partner, Joanne Brown. They are seen here following a ceremony held at Normanby Hall (image credit North Lincolnshire Council).
The new Mayor, from Crowle, has chosen to support The Fire Fighters Charity, Starlight Arts, and Magic Moments for Autistic Kids by raising money in various ways over the coming months.
Brigg Town Cricket Club's fortunes were at a very low ebb some years ago, with facilities being a main issue.
Keen to help, Coun Briggs, then the Deputy Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, hosted a meeting at the Recreation Ground which was attended by council staff, fellow councillors and club officials.
Brigg Blog was also invited along, having sounded alarm bells with our Brigg & Wolds Ward members.
Eventually, the council invested heavily in the Recreation Ground - totally transforming it with new changing rooms (including a community room with kitchen - ideal for cricket teas), a floodlit all-weather hockey pitch and tennis courts.
There had been calls for the Rec to receive sizeable investment during the era of Glanford Borough Council in the 1980s, with Dr Peter Norris (and others) launching a campaign for Brigg to get an all-weather hockey pitch.
The Glanford authority had taken over the Rec in 1974 when Brigg Urban District Council was abolished by local government re-organisation.
The UDC created the Rec after buying Woodbine Farm, and the ground opened in 1952. So this year is its 70th.
Coun Janet Longcake (Bottesford) is the Deputy Mayor of North Lincolnshire for 2022/23 and is also expected to visit Brigg at various times in her civic role.
