The former Town Hall in Brigg is to set to go unisex as part of plans to refurbish civic premises which have served the town well for more than half a century.
Planning permission is being sought to make changes to the two-storey building on Cary Lane pictured here.
Formal approval is being requested to extend "bathroom facilities" and replace the front entrance porch.
North Lincolnshire Council intends to refurbish the building so it can be used by staff, following the closure of the authority's Hewson House office block, off Station Road.
The intention is to remove the female and male toilets and install four 'unisex' replacements.
The council explains there is still a need for employees "to be able to work dynamically from Brigg" and the Cary Lane offices have been identified as suitable, due to their centrally placed location.
"The purpose of the proposed construction works is to provide a more flexible approach to the toilet provision," the authority adds.
Brigg was flushed with civic pride circa 1970 when the first purpose-built Town Hall was constructed by the Urban District Council, as its Buttercross base was no longer large enough for the staff.
This Cary Lane building later passed into Glanford Borough Council's ownership in 1974 (being used by the borough engineer & surveyor's department) and then to North Lincolnshire Council when it was created in 1996.
The Cary Lane office block's most recent use was as rented accommodation for Humberside Police, whose Brigg station on Barnard Avenue is nearby.
The current application will be decided in due course by local planners, with Brigg Town Council consulted as part of the process.
North Lincolnshire Council employees formerly based on the Hewson House site have been relocated to other facilities owned by the authority, including some in Scunthorpe.
The council is keen to see additional Brigg housing provided off Station Road in the future, and Hewson House has been declared surplus to requirements.
