12 NEW FLATS PLANNED IN BRIGG - NOT FAR FROM THE TESCO STORE

Plans have been announced to build 12 three-storey flats on a "brownfield site" in Brigg town centre.
They are earmarked for land adjacent to Springs Way and Cary Lane at DN20 8HA.
The site, to the rear of 5-6 Market Place, is near Cary Lane's turning circle; to the north is the town's Tesco store on the other side of Springs Way.
The flats will be housed in an L-shaped brick building, and all but one will have balconies.
An application has now been submitted to North Lincolnshire Council, and Brigg Town Council will be consulted as part of the planning process.
The unitary authority will make its ruling in due course, with a public consultation period concluding on June 6.
Market Place Brigg Limited is the applicant, through an agent based on the North Bank.
Supporting documentation supplied to the council explains: "The site has been empty for many years, and despite previous planning approvals remains so."
The statement says: "The land is currently used for car parking, and aside from small buildings on the eastern side of the site there are no other structures."
It adds: "The provision of on-site car parking is desired within residential developments and, in this instance, parking spaces would be provided within integral garages, plus within a designated parking area in the core of the site."
A heritage statement submitted to council planners and headed 'Twelve New Townhouses' says the site is to the rear of Grimley Smith Associates' offices.
"We believe that the new development will be an enhancement to the conservation area," the statement adds.
"It will add a high quality buffer between the main conservation area of the High Street & the modern commercial Wilko’s type new developments to the north."
Photographs supplied in the heritage statement suggest the proposed demolition of the former Spencer Molloy shop and the dismantling of "the Victorian structure" nearby to allow "re-use of the materials."
