NEW FACILITY APPROVED AT BRIGG SCHOOL WHERE OLD 'BLOCKS' CAN BE DEMOLISHED

Demolition of disused buildings at a Brigg school and the creation of a new technology suite have been approved.
North Lincolnshire Council has now granted planning permission for the Sir John Nelthorpe Upper School site, off Grammar School Road.
The development involves partial refurbishment of one block to form a new technology suite and inclusion unit, including a new meeting room extension, entrance lobby extension, removal of an existing bay window and provision of a new service access ramp and external doorway.
Also approved is the demolition of disused buildings (see picture above from the late 1950s when they were erected close to the then boarding house).
A North Lincolnshire Council planning assessment report said these proposals involved "an essential provision for a local community facility."
The report noted that the site was "located within the setting of a Grade I Listed Building" - the original late 17th century school.
But the proposals relating to to the main block "are modest in scale and design and are subordinate to the main building."
The demolition suggested would remove structures lacking architectural merit - "allowing increased views across the wider site to the Grade I Listed Building."
The report said that once these buildings had been demolished, the land they occupied "will be restored to match the existing surface which is finished in tarmac."
Brigg Town Council was consulted about this application and raised no objections.
