The Brigg & Wolds ward on North Lincolnshire Council will be extended south to include Cadney parish (currently part of the Ridge ward) unless altered through "Parliamentary scrutiny" later this year, which seems unlikely.
A current report compiled by council staff updates and informs councillors about the final recommendations of the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) "for new electoral arrangements for North Lincolnshire Council."
The commissioners explain: "We are not persuaded by the argument that Cadney has better links to towns in Ridge ward and remain of the view it is best served in Brigg & Wolds ward."
In addition, there will be a new Broughton & Scawby ward, represented by two councillors.
Currently there is a Broughton & Appleby ward, with Scawby being part of Ridge.
The final recommendations come into effect from the next scheduled local elections in May 2023 "following an Order made, laid before, and approved by Parliament by this Autumn, when it will then become law."
The council report explains that the authority will then "be required by the expected Parliamentary approved Order and subsequent law to implement the LGBCE’s final recommendations."
The number of councillors serving on the North Lincolnshire authority from May 2023 onwards will remain the same (43)
The average number of electors per councillor envisaged by the boundary review will be about 3,100 after some re-arrangements have been made.
The boundary review report was presented to a North Lincolnshire Council meeting yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, May 18)
