PLAN TO BUILD 12 NEW FLATS IN BRIGG SUPPORTED BY TOWN COUNCIL

A scheme to build 12 three-storey flats in Brigg is being supported by the Town Council, which says this type of accommodation is required locally and that what's being proposed would tidy up an era of land.
Market Place Brigg Limited is now seeking approval from North Lincolnshire Council, the local planning authority, to erect an L-shaped building bordering Springs Way and Cary Lane - not far from the Tesco store and behind the former Brown & Co offices in the Market Place.
It is proposed to demolish the former Spencer Molloy shop and an adjoining building.
Brigg Town Council has been consulted as part of the planning process and its Planning & Environment Committee discussed the application for new flats during its latest meeting, held in the Angel Suite Lounge.
References were made to the presence of a mature silver birch tree on the site.
The committee also felt the proposed brickwork was not in keeping with the Brigg Conservation Area and asked whether this could be modified.
Town councillors were also keen to ensure any vehicles that are not parked in the new garages provided did not overhang the adjoining footpath.
It was noted that electric vehicle (EV) charging points were not 'identified' in the proposals, and the committee sought assurances they would be no 'visibility issue' when vehicles exited the site near the Cary Lane turning circle.
These comments and the town authority's support for the scheme have been forwarded to North Lincolnshire Council which will decide the application at some future date. The public consultation period ends on June 6.
