NEW RAILWAY BOOK INCLUDES BRIGG LINE IN THE DAYS OF STEAM

Railway books on local topics always prove popular, and Brigg Blog is pleased to learn that it's now full steam ahead for the latest.
The Railways of North East Lincolnshire Part 5 - The World Beyond Wrawby - will be launched on Saturday/Sunday (May 14/15) at the Immingham Model Railway Show.
Author Paul King says this concludes his survey of North Eastern Lincolnshire lines in the days of steam.
"In The World Beyond Wrawby, the lines to Lincoln, Gainsborough and Thorne are reviewed," Paul explains, "along with the East Lincs line from Willoughby to Boston."
The Gainsborough route from Wrawby Junction includes Brigg and Kirton Lindsey (both stations still being on the network but without passenger trains- currently suspended) plus Scawby & Hibaldstow (closed in the mid-1960s).
The Wrawby-Lincoln line formerly had stations at Howsham and North Kelsey (eventually axed during the Dr Beeching era).
Elsham station (closed in 1993) was on the Barnetby-Thorne route.
These lines all feature in Paul's book.
Also included are the Skegness, Spilsby, Bardney and Horncastle branches, plus the 'New Line' - Kirkstead to Little Steeping.
The final two chapters cover Immingham locomotives working outside North Eastern Lincolnshire, and photographs that nearly made the previous books in this series but were excluded "due to space consideration."
Those people unable to make it to this weekend's launch will be able to obtain copies from May 17. Email goneegging@hotmail.co.uk for details.
The price is £19.95p, plus £3.50p postage. Payments can be made by cheque, bank transfer or PayPal. Use the email address to find out more.
There are already plans to produce a further book looking at the diesel era in northern Lincolnshire.
Paul is now looking for photographs and material, particularly from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s to complement what he already has.
