BRIGG BLOG'S WEEKEND SPORT PREVIEW: WORLD CUP SERIES QUADRATHLON, CRICKET & PARKRUN


In addition to cricket, sports fans in the Brigg area will be able to watch running, cycling, kayaking and river swimming this weekend which sees a World Cup series quadrathlon event being staged locally.
The Keyo Brigg Bomber Quadrathlon, the Keyo Brigg Bomber Standard Distance Triathlon and a new Keyo Brigg Sprint Quadrathlon will all be held on Sunday morning (May 29) from 8.30am over several hours.
These events are being organised by the Lincsquad club and will be centred on the Ancholme Leisure Centre at Scawby Brook.
Competitors will be swimming in the New River Ancholme, cycling to and from Redbourne and running from Broughton Bridge alongside the river into Brigg and then making their way to the leisure centre. There will also be a Castlethorpe Bridge kayak section.
The Keyo Brigg Bomber Quad 2022 comprises a 1.5k river swim, 32k by bike, 7k in a kayak & a 10k run. It is part of the World Quadrathlon Federation World Cup series.
Brigg, Broughton and Hibaldstow cricket teams have some important cup and league games coming up.
Having kick-started their Lincolnshire County League season with a welcome home victory last Saturday, Brigg Town have a local derby tomorrow.
Town's players will be making the short trip along the A1084 to take on Caistor 2nds at their Brigg Road venue for a 1pm start. Caistor currently lead Supplementary Cup Group Three.
Unbeaten Broughton 2nds head Group One and tomorrow journey south down the A15 to take on new team Nettleham 3rds.
The top team from each of the four groups qualifies for the semi-finals.
Hibaldstow will be looking to record their third successive Lincs League victory tomorrow, and have home advantage against Lincoln side Hartsholme 2nds in a Division Two fixture (1pm).
Sunday afternoon will see local sides playing home games in the North Lindsey League's Mick Walker Memorial Trophy.
Broughton 3rds host Outcasts in Group C, while Hibaldstow 2nds entertain Messingham in Group B (1.30pm starts).
On Saturday morning (May 28) the latest Ancholme Valley Way Parkrun will take place in Brigg - heading north alongside the river.
Competitors for this 5K event will be meeting near the Ancholme Way flyover bridge at 8.45am for a 9am start.
