Brigg Town secured their first Lincolnshire County Cricket League points of the season while losing by 111 runs yesterday (Saturday, May 7).
For their second outing of the campaign, Brigg visited Barton Town 2nds in Division Three West and reduced the Marsh Lane side to 57 for five, as Nick Beacock claimed four wickets at a cost of only 22 runs.
However, Barton recovered to post a decent 172 for seven in their 45 overs - Brigg gained three bowling bonus points for their wicket-taking efforts.
Topping this total looked challenging and Brigg managed only 61 in reply, being dismissed in the 20th over. Paul Neal top scored with 17.
Broughton had a first team home tie against Scunthorpe Town 2nds in the first round of the George Marshall Trophy, and were beaten by five wickets.
Lack of runs was Broughton's problem; they were dismissed for 97 after opening batsman Richard Stone had contributed 52.
Scunthorpe then eased home with 11 overs to spare, Shaun Clark taking two of the wickets they lost at a cost of 20 runs.
Hibaldstow visited Normanby Park in round one of the Bob Welton Cup and progressed to the next stage with a six-wicket success.
Normanby were dismissed for 120 - Jason Scatcherd recording Hibaldstow's best figures with a return of three for 13 in a varied attack which featured seven bowlers.
Hibaldstow lost early wickets before a decisive stand developed between Lee Robinson (39) and Nathan Goodall (52 not out).
Broughton 2nds made the short trip to Messingham 2nds for a Division Three West game which proved to be a very close encounter.
Opener Jake Parker led the way with 43 in Broughton's 183 for six.
Messingham then inched home by two wickets, despite Jack Johnstone taking three for 23.
