Some street parties are to be held in Brigg to mark The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
Residents of Burgess Road (on the St Helens housing estate) have been given permission by the council to close this road to traffic on Sunday, June 5 from 10am to 10pm (between the Yarbrough Road junction and the turn into Churchill Avenue.
Public notices are being displayed in the area. So motorists planning to use this route on the day should take note. Barriers will be erected at both ends of the closed off section.
Coun Bryan Robins, who was presented to Her Majesty when she visited Brigg Recreation Ground in 1977 during her Silver Jubilee year, used to live in a bungalow near the section of Burgess Road which will soon be hosting the party honouring The Queen. Bryan, the Lincolnshire Times photographer, was Town Mayor at the time.
During Brigg Town Council's meeting held last month, Coun Rob Waltham suggested Jubilee party grants should be invited, and mentioned that one was already being planned on Burgess Road.
The council made grants of up to £100 available to groups of residents in Brigg wishing to arrange street parties to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in early June. The deadline for applications was May 11.
AFTERNOON UPDATE: The council has now confirmed £100 Jubilee Party grants for Burgess Road, Albert Street and Chartdale.
