BRIGG BLOG IS PLEASED TO SEE SUNDAY CRICKET BEING ENJOYED

Brigg Blog was interested to see that Hibaldstow Cricket Club played Scunthorpe Town 4ths on Sunday in Mick Walker North Lindsey League Division Two.
Scunthorpe were described as making their league debut against our local villagers who chose to bat first at Heslam Park, off Ashby Road, and were bowled out for 69 before the hosts went on to reach 70 without losing a wicket to register their first win in the NLL.
Scunthorpe 4ths' debut, however, was a reference to the current millennium and the fact they are a new side for 2022.
We can recall playing for Brigg Town 2nds against a former Scunthorpe 4ths side back in the late 1970s when that steel town team played on the High Ridge ground, off Brumby Wood Lane.
During the break between innings, the players and umpire(s) went back to Heslam Park for tea in the clubhouse.
Lindsey games back then were played on Saturdays and Sundays, depending on ground availability.
Scunthorpe Town today also have a Development X1 playing Sunday cricket in Division One, and field three senior teams on Saturdays.
That's a heartening number of teams and bucks the current trend.
Last Sunday saw Broughton 3rds in action in North Lindsey Division Two, but they lost by 57 runs to Normanby Park.
Normanby were bowled out for 139 - James Oades taking three for seven for Broughton with two wickets apiece for Ben Fish, Phil Heath and Alex Fish.
Scott Pashley then scored 21 and Josh Smith 20 for Broughton who totalled 82.
