BRIGG BLOG PREVIEWS A BUSY WEEKEND - FOOTBALL, CRICKET & PARKRUN


Brigg & district football and cricket teams will be in action this weekend, and there will also be a 5k Parkrun in the town.
Brigg Town Development will complete the 2021/22 campaign with an away game at table-topping Wyberton on Saturday afternoon (May 14) in the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire Football League Premier. The Development XI lost 3-1 away to Barton Town OB Reserves on Tuesday night (May 10) in their penultimate fixture.
Hoping to secure promotion back to the top flight of the Lincolnshire County Cricket League at the end of this season, Broughton have a Division One home game against Lincoln side Hartsholme on Saturday (1pm start).
Brigg Town cricketers face their third successive away game - this time in the Supplementary Cup. They make the lengthy trek south to meet Alford 2nds in Group Three, while Broughton 2nds journey to Messingham 2nds in Group One.
This competition is 30 overs a side (rather than 45) and involves teams from the lower sections of the league.
They play in four qualifying groups, whose winners will meet in the semi-finals.
Traditional cricket teas (often sandwiches and cakes) are not taken in Supplementary Cup fixtures; there is just a short drinks break between the innings.
On Sunday afternoon (May 15) two local cricket teams will be in action in Division Two of the Mick Walker North Lindsey League.
Broughton are away to Normanby Park, while Hibaldstow visit Scunthorpe 4ths.
Brigg Town Veterans were due to have an important home game coming up on Sunday afternoon in Hull & District Football League Division Four but their scheduled opponents have conceded the points. So Town are champions of this section.
Saturday morning will see another Ancholme Valley Way Parkrun in Brigg - heading north alongside the river. Competitors for this 5K event will be meeting at 8.45am for a 9am start near the Ancholme Way flyover bridge.

Various licensed premises in Brigg and district will be screening live coverage of the FA Cup final on Saturday afternoon, with local football fans attending to watch the big match - pint in hand - between Chelsea and Liverpool.
