WEEKEND FLOODING & DRIVER DELAYS IN BRIGG

Roadworks and footpath flooding near the A18 in Brigg over the weekend February 19 and 20, 2022

Many drivers using the A18 in Brigg were delayed while a repair project was carried out near the main road yesterday (Saturday, February 19) with pedestrians later encountering footpath flooding which still remained an issue early today.
Anglian Water was working near the former Vines eatery on Wrawby Street yesterday with temporary traffic lights in place on both adjacent carriageways. The nearby pelican (pedestrian) crossing was taken out of service.
The essential work near the crossing had ceased last night but water was flowing at some speed from near the Tintab Shelter on East Park into drains on Bigby Street and Wrawby Street (either side of the Britannia Inn).

There was no sign of surface water near the site of the roadworks this morning but a hole excavated in the path remained with a pipe visible at the bottom (pictured here).
Water this morning was still flowing into near drains adjoining East Park. It appeared to be bubbling up through a crack in the path on Wrawby Street near the seating shelter.
Queuing traffic yesterday, at times, stretched beyond the Monument roundabout into Wrawby Road and along Bigby Road and Bigby Street. The temporary traffic lights had gone early this morning but the pelican crossing was still out of action with hoods in place over its button-controlled lights.

Access to the Britannia is unaffected by the leaks.
Brigg Blog will be contacting Anglian Water to see if it wishes to comment and supply details about the weekend project.
Following on from Storm Dudley and then Storm Eunice, the Met Office has now given details of the next which will bring bad weather.
In an alert issued this morning, it explains that Storm Franklin - a low-pressure system - is expected to bring high winds during Sunday night and into Monday morning for much of the UK. View full details here...

SPORT: All yesterday's local football matches involving Brigg Town Development, Briggenians and Barnetby United were postponed due to the recent storms. Brigg Town's first team did not have a scheduled fixture.
