STORM EUNICE: WATERY SCENES IN BRIGG AND A LOCAL FIRE SERVICE CALL-OUT

Storm Eunice, which closely followed Storm Dudley, caused severe damage across many parts of the UK but the Brigg area, in comparison, was not so badly affected yesterday (Friday, February 18).
Forecasters had an Amber weather warning in place for our district, with 'extremely strong winds' at times topping 60mph and the Humber Bridge had to be closed for a time.
Some fences and trees in the Brigg area suffered as a result yesterday.
However, a check early this morning of the Humberside Fire & Rescue Service call-out log shows only one local entry (so far).
This involved the removal of a satellite dish from the roof of a property in Bonby.
There were many other call-outs across the service's area, mainly on the North Bank and in and around Grimsby and Cleethorpes.
The Environment Agency had no flood alerts or warnings in place for the River Ancholme early today (Saturday).
The agency's latest river level depth reading for Brigg shows 1.19m, which is classed as being normal. This reading was taken about 6am.
Standing water was evident on some paths and roads in Brigg yesterday, following heavy overnight rain.
Flooding of the road (and sometimes the path) near East Parade's postbox was a problem initially flagged up many months ago.

Residents and drivers on this well-used route continue to hope that a permanent fix will be forthcoming for what is a long-standing issue.
Meanwhile, on Wrawby Street, it appears that work is already in hand to deal with periodic footpath flooding near the former Vines eatery.
