BRIGG IS NOT STUMPED FOR LOCATIONS TO PLANT A TREE FOR THE JUBILEE

Brigg people and businesses can plant trees on their own land as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy during this, the year of her Platinum Jubilee.
Both the councils serving our town can also be expected to support this 'green' initiative.
Suitable sites need to be identified, of course, and Brigg Blog suggests some 'in filling' might be called for.
That is, planting trees where others stood until they became diseased, died of old age or were blown in storms.
Several years ago a mature tree located on a grass verge on Bigby Road, very close to the Monument roundabout, toppled into the highway. It was rapidly removed by North Lincolnshire Council so traffic on the A1084 could get past, but the stump is still evident today.
Planting a replacement here, perhaps as part of the Queen's Platinum 70-year Jubilee in June, would be welcome.
There are other locations in Brigg where mature trees have come down over the years.
As part of The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, people across the United Kingdom are being asked to Plant a Tree for the Jubilee.
Her Majesty visited Brigg in 1977, as part of a tour of communities marking her Silver Jubilee (25 years as monarch). She watched a pageant at the Rec Ground.
The Rec is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, having been opened by Brigg Urban District Council back in 1952. Covering a large area, it would seem ideal for tree planting as part of the Green Canopy.
How about alongside the entry road off Wrawby Road which leads through to Brigg Town FC?
Brigg Blog has now requested a contact email from North Lincolnshire Council so people can suggest other locations for tree planting. We will keep you posted on this. The authority will, of course, have to consider each nomination to consider whether planting is possible.
