STORM DUDLEY: MARKET STALLS CANCELLED BUT TRADERS KEEP SERVING SHOPPERS

Although the Thursday market in Brigg was cancelled by North Lincolnshire Council, two traders kept serving loyal customers yesterday (February 17, 2022) despite strong winds from Storm Dudley.
The provision of stalls was ruled out, on safety grounds, by the markets authority because of forecast adverse weather.
However, long-established market stall Barry Chilvers Fruit & Veg traded yesterday from the vacant former Molly's Flowers shop in the Market Place, adjoining the Coney Court archway.
And as Grimsby fish has long been sold from a van parked near the Buttercross, strong winds did not pose a problem, and shoppers yesterday were still able to stock up with cod, haddock and other varieties
This was not the first time the Chilvers Fruit & Veg stall had switched sales to the nearby shop. It did so in April 2020 under different circumstances.
Tomorrow (Saturday, February 19) the planned Totally Locally Brigg Indie Market, with many stalls, has been called off due to more strong winds being forecast, allied to Storm Eunice.
However, Chilvers Fruit & Veg will again be using the former flower shop, and the fish van is expected to be back in the Market Place. So the picture on Saturday should replicate scenes we recorded (above) yesterday morning.
