North Lincolnshire Council funding has now been announced for a Brigg community tea to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, together with grants for events in Broughton, Wrawby and Scawby.
A recent Brigg Blog post revealed these applications were all being recommended for approval, and £250 has now been agreed as contributions towards these events.
Couns Rob Waltham and Carl Sherwood (Brigg & Wolds) have both welcomed the fact that many Jubilee commemorations are to be held across the district.
Local grants (£250 each) are going to Brigg Angels Women’s Institute (community tea planned in the Angel Suite), Broughton Town Council for a Big Jubilee Lunch, Scawby Events Team for a gala day, Wrawby Village Hall for an afternoon tea party, and Hibaldstow Parish Council for a flagpole and bracket.

A host of celebrations to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee have been given a major boost thanks to cash worth thousands of pounds.
More than 30 community groups, town and parish councils and voluntary organisations across North Lincolnshire will receive the funding to kickstart celebrations.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is a monumental milestone – no other British monarch has reigned for so long. It is only right we help communities in every corner of North Lincolnshire to celebrate this remarkable achievement.”
In June 2022, the nation will come together for a blockbuster bank-holiday weekend full of festivities to celebrate 70 years of the Queen’s reign.
Residents will not miss out on the celebrations, with North Lincolnshire Council enabling a range of community-led activities and events over the extra-long weekend.
Across the region, 34 community groups will receive a share of more than £18,000 to organise events.
Cllr Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for rural communities, said: “The variety of events that are planned is fantastic, from a special garden party in Scunthorpe and a 1950s Day in Bottesford to a Coronation-themed afternoon tea in Brigg and a commemorative medal drive in Killingholme, organisers across the region are pulling out all the stops to make this a once-in-a-generation event to savour.”
As well as the celebration events, local people are being invited to organise a street party with their neighbours, light a beacon and deck their homes with bunting, making this a Jubilee to remember.
A page dedicated to the Queen’s Jubilee has been created on the North Lincolnshire Council website, where people can access advice about hosting a street party and keep up to date with events happening in their community.
The cash has been announced in the wake of the Queen’s Ascension Day, which was on 6 February 1952.
A message from Her Majesty, released to mark 70 years since her ascension, read: “As I look ahead with a sense of hope and optimism to the year of my Platinum Jubilee, I am reminded of how much we can be thankful for.
“These last seven decades have seen extraordinary progress socially, technologically and culturally that have benefitted us all; and I am confident that the future will offer similar opportunities to us and especially to the younger generations in the United Kingdom and throughout the Commonwealth.”
