POSSIBLE PLAN TO 'RELOCATE' THE BRIGG SEAL

Continued interest is being shown in the seal which has made Brigg its home in the past week or so.
Now consideration is being given to 'relocate' the visitor which will have gained access to the Ancholme at low tide from the Humber where the rivers meet at South Ferriby.
We spotted a social media post (dated yesterday) by a volunteer from a rescue organisation who said they were monitoring the situation.
Requesting local pictures of the seal on land, the post indicated that once aware of where it rests, they could then look at a plan to relocate the creature.
Among comments resulting was one saying it seems happy enough where it is, and another suggesting that although eating in the river it needs to be back at sea.
Following the picture Brigg Blog posted at the weekend with our coverage of the riverside Parkrun, other images of the seal in Brigg have appeared online from other sources.
Some showed it near the Point where the Old and New rivers meet (close to Glanford Boat Club).
The one we used, kindly sent by Dave Britain, showed the seal enjoying an early lunch - a pike it had caught in the Old River Ancholme.
Other fish species living in the river include bream, tench, perch, roach, chubb, rudd, dace and eels. Spring's Stretch, as anglers call it, is well-known for pike.
This seal in local waters is the first Brigg Blog has written about, having been a local journalist since 1974.
So its visit to our area is very rare and perhaps unique.
