PLANS TO CREATE LIVING COMPLEX IN BRIGG FOR 'OLDER PEOPLE' ON SIZEABLE SITE

A large 'living complex' in Brigg is being proposed at Hewson House, Station Road, late February 2022

Plans for a new housing development in Brigg have been made public by North Lincolnshire Council, with a decision to be made next month.
It is proposed to create a new "older people's independent living complex" at Station Road's Hewson House, which is seen as being "surplus to future need."
A council report explains: "The proposed site for housing development will provide an opportunity to deliver a range of accommodation for over 55s. This supports the housing needs assessment for North Lincolnshire."
The following proposals are to be considered:
  • Neighbourhood Service functions currently operating from the Hewson House depot will be rationalised and moved to operate from the Billet Lane Depot, Scunthorpe.
  • The IT Data Centre within the Hewson House site will move to Church Square House, Scunthorpe.

This scheme also includes a plan to "re-purpose" a council-owned office building on Cary Lane which "will provide a base for North Lincolnshire Council and partners in Brigg."
The council's Commercial Cabinet Member, Councillor Neil Poole (Ridge Ward) is to make a decision on these proposals "after March 3."
If approval is granted it will "enable the site to be taken to the market for the development of a new housing offer for over 55s in Brigg."
The council indicates that a £323,000 "revenue saving" will result from this scheme.
