Funding has been sought to help with the cost of providing a special community tea in Brigg for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
North Lincolnshire Council has set aside a pot of money in Community Grant Aid to support jubilee Celebrations across its district.
Brigg Angels Women’s Institute has requested £250 from the council to help members provide a Coronation-themed afternoon tea "for the elderly and lonely of Brigg & surrounding areas." Further funding will come from other sources.
The following local applications have also be submitted, all seeking £250 in Community Grant Aid:
Broughton Town Council: Big Jubilee Lunch.
Hibaldstow Parish Council: Flagpole and bracket.
Scawby Events Team: Gala Day.
Wrawby Village Hall: Afternoon Tea Party.
These applications for funding are now being considered by North Lincolnshire Council.
Many more have been submitted from other parts of the unitary authority's district.
A council director's report explains: "In June 2022 the nation will come together over a four-day Bank Holiday weekend to celebrate the Queen’s 70-year reign – the first time any British monarch has reached this milestone.
"The council will enable a range of community-led activities and events over the long weekend for communities to mark this historic occasion."
Decisions on all the grant applications are now pending.
Her Majesty yesterday (February 6, 2022) completed 70 years as Queen, acceding following the death of her father, King George VI.
