REMEMBERING BRIGG SOLDIER WHO DIED ON ACTIVE SERVICE

Information about a Brigg soldier who was killed while on active service during the Second World War has been sent to us by a lady who lives in Kent.
Edward Spight later became one of 'The Fallen' servicemen to have his name recorded on the town's Monument war memorial.
He had taken part in the Allied landings in Normandy, northern France, in 1944.
Our correspondent found information about Edward while carrying our research into her own ancestry. This includes sad details relating to his death.
She is willing to pass information she has to members of Edward's family. Please contact Brigg Blog with your contact details and we will forward them on.
We are informed Edward is also remembered on a memorial wall in a cemetery in France.
This lady located Brigg Blog on the web some time ago following a Google search made after she had watched a weekend TV broadcast of The Last Night of the Proms concert which featured a performance of the renowned Brigg Fair song.
Correctly thinking we would be interested in posting details about the Brigg serviceman, she suggested we delayed doing so until the approach of Remembrance Sunday.
With Remembrance Day and Remembrance Sunday ahead, Brigg people are asked to reflect on the price paid by Edward and all the others from our area who saw active service.
