BRIGG TOWN FC STEP UP BID FOR THE TITLE WHILE REC GROUND DERBY PROVES A CLOSE ENCOUNTER


 

Brigg Town Football Club hit the goal trail with a big 7-1 win at South Yorkshire side Parkgate yesterday (Saturday, November 13).
The promotion-chasing Zebras are second in ToolStation Northern Counties East - three points behind North Ferriby, having played the same number of games.
Brigg Town's marksmen yesterday were Josh Batty (3), Scott Phillips (2), Alfie Usher and Jon Oglesby. Five of the Brigg goals came in the second half.

In the EC Surfacing Ltd Scunthorpe & District Football League yesterday, Barnetby United beat Briggensians 2-0 at Brigg Recreation Ground in a Johnsons Transport Hospital Cup Group B encounter, with Brendan O’Callaghan and Joe Stothard scoring for the Railwaymen. Barnetby United Reserves lost 4-0 when hosting New Holland Villa in Tortank Barton Brotherhood Cup Group B.
There was a good 5-2 away win for Briggensians Reserves at Gunness & Burringham in Nev Watson Nursing Cup Group B. Ben Toyne netted a hat-trick and Owen Dunderdale was also on the mark for the Brigg-based side.


BATTLING BRIGGENSIANS PUSH RAILWAYMEN ALL THE WAY

The Hospital Cup Group B match at the Recreation Ground in Brigg saw Barnetby ultimately triumph 2-0 following a hard-fought tussle, writes Lee Fielden.
The Railwaymen faced a stubborn Briggensians side who weren’t willing to roll over.
Chances were spurned at regular intervals in the first half as the hosts held firm and frustrated Barnetby.
The second half continued in a similar vein with Briggensians willing to sit back and stand firm to what was thrown at them.
On 73 minutes, captain Joe Scott burst forward from centre half into the Briggensians box; his run ended when the ball was put out for a corner.
Dan Greaves swung in the set-piece that was met by the head of Brendan O’Callaghan who looped a header into the far corner for his 16th goal of the season, to finally break Briggensians resistance.
On 84 minutes a Liam Jordan corner was met by the trusted head of Joe Stothard who powered home Barnetby’s second and made the result safe.
