Brigg Blog has been asked to post the funeral details for well-known local sportsman Dave Simpson who has died aged 75.
Dave, from Broughton, made a huge contribution to his town's cricket club.
He played and also gave great service as an organiser and as a groundsman, helping to keep the Scawby Road playing area in top order.
After his playing career ended, Dave umpired for many years as a member of the Scunthorpe & District panel of neutral officials. He was widely respected in this role, travelling far and wide to stand in league matches.
Many Brigg Town cricketers of past decades will recall playing against Dave and also in games he umpired at our Rec Ground.
The Brigg and Broughton clubs both gained admission to the Lincolnshire League in the mid-1970s.
Dave often umpired with his brother, Bryan, who was also a great servant to local cricket up to his death in 2018.
The funeral service for Dave will be held at St Mary's Church, Broughton, on Monday, November 22 at 1pm. Donations in his memory can be made to Parkinsons UK.
