A long-established 'old boys' football match in Brigg is set to resume after being postponed last year due to the Coronavirus emergency.
Raising money for charity, the game is earmarked for Brigg Town Football Club's EC Surfacing Stadium (the Hawthorns) on Monday, December 27, 2021 (11am kick-off). This is by kind permission of club officials.
It will combine the long-established post-Christmas Briggensians get-together involving former football-playing pupils of Sir John Nelthorpe School and the Adrian Gibbons fixture played in memory of the very popular local teacher and ex-Brigg Town and Briggensians footballer who died seven years ago.
All the players on December 27 will be donating £10 to the Cardiac Risk in the Young charity.
There will also be an opportunity for spectators to contribute on the day.
Teacher Jon Taylor is organising the match, following which a couple of cheques will be presented to worthy causes, resulting from other fundraising.
Jon is now asking local people to help 'spread the word' about this festive fixture.
Contact him through Facebook with requests to play or for further details.
For many years the Briggensians Association, representing former SJN pupils and staff, held winter sports reunions a few days after Christmas, with 'Gibb' being one of the organisers.
The football matches were followed by 'indoor games' and a drink or two on licensed premises. We expect the tradition to be upheld on December 27!
