Brigg Town Council is planning to install an arch over the County Bridge as part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations to be held locally in June 2022.
Our archive picture above shows another archway which was erected at the same location in 1953 to mark Her Majesty's Coronation.
A local talking point at the time, it was sponsored by Spring's - the preserves-making company which was then a major local employer, having a factory overlooking the Old River Ancholme, close to the bridge.
Brigg firm R. M. Phillips & Son was responsible for erecting the arch. R. M. P. Phillips was a long-serving councillor and Chairman of Brigg Urban District Council around this time. The company often helped out on town projects - practically and financially. R M Phillips & Son, like Spring's, was a major employer.
At Brigg Town Council's next meeting on Tuesday evening (November 23) councillors will be asked "to resolve the installation of the Arch over the Bridge for the Jubilee."
Elected representatives will also receive an update on the plans being made for the extended four-day Jubilee Weekend next June "and resolve matters arising."
Some planning meetings involving local groups have already been held, with a variety of events expected to result.
The Queen, who became our reigning monarch in 1952, visited Brigg in 1977 as part of her Silver Jubilee tour of communities across the UK - marking her 25 years on the throne. She was accompanied by her husband, The Duke of Edinburgh.
They watched a pageant staged for their benefit on the Recreation Ground, off Wrawby Road.
The royal couple chatted to local people and also admired some of the horses which formed part of the event.
Among those presented to Her Majesty when she arrived at The Rec was the then Town Mayor, Coun Bryan Robins, who was staff photographer with the Lincolnshire Times newspaper, based at 57 Wrawby Street.
The Rec was also the location, in 2012, for a special gala event marking the Queen's Diamond Jubilee (60 years).
