LAND FOR MAJOR BRIGG HOUSING DEVELOPMENT FORMS PARTS OF LOCAL PLAN DISCUSSED WITH PUBLIC

 

The major new Brigg North housing development was among proposals on display during a public consultation session held yesterday (Tuesday, November 9).
Potentially involving scores of new homes, is earmarked for a huge site between the M180 and the Springbank estate and close to the northern ends of Grammar School Road and Atherton Way.
The land in question, near the border between Brigg and Wrawby, is outlined for inclusion in the new North Lincolnshire Local Plan, setting out sites for future development until 2038.
Maps showing the Brigg North site and a new access road to run from the A18 on Wrawby Road were on show at yesterday's 'roadshow' in the Angel Suite.
This allowed the public to comment on the proposed content of the latest Local Plan before it is submitted to the Government's Planning Inspectorate for detailed consideration. The process has now reached its fourth and final draft stage.
Other 'Local Plan Preferred Options' sessions are being held across North Lincolnshire this month.

Yesterday's roadshow in the Angel was attended by our Brigg & Wolds representatives on North Lincolnshire Council - Coun Rob Waltham (Leader), Coun Carl Sherwood (Cabinet member) and Coun Nigel Sherwood, who chairs the district planning committee.
Council staff were also there to offer advice and take questions from visiting members of the public.
Communities near Brigg were also included in this session, including Wrawby, Scawby, Broughton, Barnetby and the Low Villages.
North Lincolnshire Council defines a Local Plan as setting out "the vision and objectives for the future development of the area, addressing needs and opportunities in relation to housing, the economy, community facilities and infrastructure – as well as a basis for safeguarding the environment, adapting to climate change and securing good design."
It adds that "the policies and proposals will guide decisions and investment on development and regeneration up to 2036."
The 'Stage 5' consultation will officially close on November 26, 2021.
North Lincolnshire Council says that, in 2023, it will "formally adopt the new plan, providing it’s been prepared correctly, and use it to determine planning applications."
That will be Stage 6 of a process which began back in 2017!
