BRIGG PLEDGES CASH TO PROJECT AIMING TO ERADICATE DEADLY DISEASE

 

Colourful flowers will spring into view across Brigg early next year, helped by a grant from the Town Council.
Purple crocuses will be on display on many grass verges, at schools and on other pockets of land early in 2022, as has been the case for a number of years.
Brigg Rotary Club co-ordinates the local planting of crocuses as part of a worldwide Rotary campaign known as Purple4Polio. Through inoculations, it is intended to eradicate a potentially life-threatening or crippling disease that still poses a threat in some far-away countries. A blob of purple dye is applied after people have received their anti-polio jabs through the scheme.
Brigg Rotary Club recently submitted an application for a Town Council grant, which was considered at the recently-held October meeting. Boxes of corms (bulbo-tubers) need to be purchased and planting arranged in due course.
Coun Ann Eardley and Coun Penny Smith proposed a £350 donation, in line with previous support given locally.
Coun Rob Waltham agreed but suggested the council should also consider regularising its backing for the annual project, removing the need to submit annual applications for assistance.
This was agreed, together with a £350 payment to be made in the near future.
