A new addition to the town centre proved to be a major talking point in Brigg over the weekend... and deservedly so.
Brigg Town Council has arranged and funded a striking poppy display ahead of Remembrance Day (Thursday November 11) and Remembrance Sunday (November 14).
A projector on the side of the Angel building is streaming red poppies onto the frontage of the nearby Buttercross after dark.
This will continue through to the weekend.
We suggest that people who have not already seen the evocative display make an effort to go along at dusk or later, take a look and reflect on the sacrifices made by local people who served in the Forces.
People of all ages were stopping to admire the display over the weekend and (in many cases) record the scene on their mobile phones for future reference.
We've already heard a number of very favourable comments being expressed by local residents, and more are bound to follow.
Brigg Town Council has discussed using the same arrangement to display images on the Buttercross of other forthcoming events in the town, utilising this technology.
The Town Council is also co-ordinating local poppy sales this year. Poppies and donation boxes have been distributed to many outlets, including the Tesco store near Barnard Avenue. Please give generously, if you haven't already got your poppy to wear with pride.
Later in the week we will be posting full Remembrance Sunday 2021 details, including times of the parade, church service and wreath-laying at the Monument war memorial.
