A well-known and long-serving councillor who grew up in Brigg has raised more £2,000 for charity in just six months... with more to follow next month with assistance from the local St John's Singers
Coun Peter Clark, the current Mayor of North Lincolnshire, once lived on Mill Lane area. He now represent the Ferry Ward, which includes Barrow-on-Humber.
FROM NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE COUNCIL
Cllr Peter Clark, Mayor of North Lincolnshire, has already raised over £2,000 through fundraising activities for his chosen charities, Sunflowers Children’s Action Group and Lindsey Lodge Hospice.
When Cllr Peter Clark was elected as the 25th Mayor of North Lincolnshire in May, he announced these two charities would benefit from the Mayor’s Appeal Fund.
Cllr Clark made history by being the very first mayor of North Lincolnshire to hold the position three times. He was first sworn into office in 2013/14, again in 2017/18 and now in 2021/22.
Cllr Clark said: “I am very proud and honoured to be the Mayor of North Lincolnshire for the third time. My wife, Carol, and I consider it a great privilege to be ambassadors for North Lincolnshire.
“I have chosen two charities which are very close to my heart and hope to raise a significant amount for these very worthy causes during my year as Mayor.”
The first fundraising activity took place in the summer with KCOM. A charity cycle ride and walk took place in Barton and both charities received more than £1,000 each.
Cllr Peter Clark is hosting a Christmas concert at Normanby Hall in December with St John’s Singers. All money raised will be donated to the Mayor’s Appeal Fund charities.
Joanne Wright, Trustee/Volunteer at Sunflowers Children’s Action Group, said: "We see it as a huge honour to be selected as one of the Mayor’s chosen charities. Sunflowers Children’s Action Group was formed in 2019, with the aim of creating special events and activities for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions.
“The money that is raised through the Mayor’s work will directly help our local brave children and will also help to introduce our charity to those who have not yet heard of it.”
Lindsey Lodge Fundraiser Selina Doyle said: “We are delighted to be one of the Mayor’s chosen charities this year.
“We are a local charity supporting North Lincolnshire patients and their families with a wide range of hospice and healthcare services and support and rely heavily on fundraising in our local community to meet our £3.7m costs each year.
“We are therefore immensely grateful to Cllr Peter Clark for his support.”
