REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY 2021 IN BRIGG - SOCIAL GATHERING - ALL WELCOME, FREE ADMISSION

Remembrance Sunday 2021 will be particularly poignant for Brigg & District Servicemen's Club, on Coney Court.
It will be hosting a free-to-attend social gathering, from 11.30pm, following the town's wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument war memorial.
"Everyone is welcome, including non-members," the club stresses. "Please join us."
A light buffet will be provided for those supporting this 'Lest We Forget' event.
The club was founded towards the end of 1920 by survivors who had returned from service during the First World War, with a social venue being established 100 years ago.
Elsewhere in the town centre, people visiting other licensed premises will be raising a glass in memory of The Fallen on Sunday.

 

The Black Bull, on Wrawby Street, has decorated its frontage with poppies to mark the occasion.
The illuminated display of poppies, beamed onto the frontage of the Buttercross in the Market Place, will concluded on Remembrance Sunday. This new initiative organised by Brigg Town Council has been admired by many people visiting the town centre after dusk.
 

Motorists should note a road closure at the Monument either side of the commemorations on Sunday - from 10.45am to 11.10am. This will affect the A18 and other streets connecting with the roundabout, including the A18 on Wrawby Road and the A1084 along Bigby Road. Queuing drivers will need to show patience.
We also expect a 'Road Closure' sign to be in place where the Market Place joins Wrawby Street, close to the former NatWest bank building.
This is within the pedestrian-only zone. However, as all Brigg residents know, some motorists continue to drive cars, vans and even lorries into the zone, including weekends.
The Remembrance Sunday parade will be progressing along Wrawby Street on Sunday morning, so it's very much hoped that vehicles will not impede its progress.
Similarly, ALL cyclists should dismount on Sunday morning - in accordance with directions given on signs at the entrances to the pedestrian area. We suggest it will show a lack of respect if they ride along the parade route tomorrow.
It's usual to see the police in evidence on Wrawby Street on Remembrance Sunday.

A couple of local Sunday football teams will be in Challenge Cup second round action in Scunthorpe tomorrow morning.
Broughton WMC will be away to BFC, while Barnetby United visit Crosby FC.
The Paul Fox Scunthorpe & District League has reminded all its teams that as tomorrow is Remembrance Sunday a period of silence should be observed prior to kick-off.
