COUNTING DOWN TO THE BRIGG CHRISTMAS LIGHTS 2021 SWITCH-ON & FESTIVE FAIR

Here are the important details local people need to know about the Brigg Christmas Lights 2021 switch-on, accompanying festive fair with an array of stalls and the accompanying late night shopping available in local retail premises.
Brigg's biggest 'major event' of the year will be held tomorrow - Thursday, November 25. This time it is NOT being staged on a Friday, as is usually the case.
There will be the traditional 5-4-3-2-1 countdown to the illuminations coming on, and the switch-pressing honour this year goes to Town Mayor Coun Brian Parker, who will do so from the Bandstand, in the Market Place, at 6pm.
The festive season lighting display has been extended by Brigg Town Council, which has arranged and funded further additions.
A tall Christmas tree, donated by the Nelthorpe Estate at Scawby, is now in place near the former NatWest band building to the side of the Buttercross. Earnshaws has supplied the wooden surrounds at ground level. The tree will be illuminated for the first time on Friday night.
Stalls forming the festive fair will be operating from 4pm to 8pm on Friday - the organisation this year being undertaken by the Brigg Town Business Partnership.
A local disco, located in the Bandstand, will be playing suitable music from 4pm to entertain visitors of all ages as they make their way through the town centre.
Many Brigg businesses will be staying open late into the evening on Friday so people can shop for Christmas gifts to give to friends and family. Licensed premises and eateries will also be welcoming people in need of refreshment.
A host of towns and villages across the UK gave up staging Christmas illuminations years ago. However, Brigg Town Council continues to do so, despite all the work this involves. The Christmas lights are all of the LED variety.
An update on the Christmas lights was given to councillors attending their November meeting, held in the Buttercross last night (Tuesday, November 23).
