SUGGESTED LOCATION FOR NEW TREE PLANTING IN BRIGG

With assistance from valued volunteers, Brigg Town Council is looking to plant many new trees and is asking the public to suggest suitable locations by emailing enquiries@briggmarkettown.co.uk while North Lincolnshire Council already has a major scheme under way to plant thousands across its district.
Brigg Blog noted at the weekend that some trees have been removed or trimmed back near the junction of Redcombe Lane and Ash Grove - either side of the Vale Academy's perimeter fence, with a pile of logs evident on the grass nearby - presumably awaiting removal..
Trees not only provide clean air but also 'drink' a great deal of rain water through their roots, helping with drainage.
So how about planting a copse of trees on part of the land near Redcombe Lane which was occupied by Glanford and later the Vale school (all buildings since demolished)?
One of Brigg's most admired mature trees is beside the Old River Ancholme - behind properties on Manley Gardens. It is best viewed from the Candley Beck bridge where Elwes Street meets Cadney Road. We took the above view recently, showing the willow (?) looking a picture in late autumn sunshine.
If you have ideas where saplings might be planted, drop an email to the Town Council. This issue is expected to be discussed at a future meeting of the authority in 2021, leading to a list of sites being drawn up.
