BRIGG IS READY FOR REMEMBRANCE DAY 2020

A flower bed in Brigg town centre is seen here ahead of Remembrance Day on Wednesday (November 11). We took this picture on Saturday after the raised area near Wetherspoon's White Horse pub had been tidied and adorned with poppies and a 'Lest We Forget' flag by volunteers from the local veterans' group.
The flower bed faces the A18 and has been seen by hundreds of passers-by in vehicles and on foot in recent days.
The miniature landing craft, made locally, was installed last year to mark the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings in northern France towards the end of the Second World War.
Due to Coronavirus emergency restriction, members of the public were asked not to gather near the Monument on Remembrance Sunday to watch the wreaths being laid,
Instead, they were provided with a 'live stream' of proceedings by Brigg Town Council through its Facebook page.
North Lincolnshire residents have been encouraged to ‘remember from home’ this year.
In his role as the Leader of the North Lincolnshire authority, Brigg's Coun Rob Waltham said: “We will continue to commemorate and thank our armed forces for all that they do to protect us, albeit in a different way this Remembrance Day."
“At the same time we are asking residents to check on their neighbours; Covid has taught us a great deal about how we all must contribute towards the community we want to live in.
“As winter approaches, checking on our neighbours, making an extra meal, shopping for our older and more vulnerable residents should become second nature to us all. Being a good neighbour costs nothing, a kind word, a good deed.
“All those who fought in two world wars did so to give us the freedoms we have today; let us use those freedoms to support those who need it at this time.”
Church Square in Scunthorpe, where the council has its headquarters, will be 'lit up in red for remembrance' until Remembrance Day on Wednesday.
