New Christmas lights are starting to go up in Brigg and will add a festive feel to the town centre during what looks like being a difficult period in many ways. Perhaps we can suggest they will help to lighten the mood of some residents.
The Town Council took a decision to buy better illuminations some time ago, and our recently-taken picture shows installation work under way on East Park. More lights are being added at other locations.
The Christmas lights switch on ceremony conducted from a temporary stage in the Market Place and arranged for Friday, November 27 was cancelled some time ago because of Coronavirus emergency restrictions on gatherings, as was the Lions' festive fair (with stalls and rides) and late night shopping.
But the lights will still come on, and the moment this happens will be 'live streamed' by Brigg Town Council through its Facebook page - for the benefit of interested townsfolk of all ages.
Unless there is a dramatic reduction in Coronavirus cases over the coming weeks, Christmas 2020 will be different in many ways to those enjoyed in previous years. But Brigg's illuminations will be a reminder of Christmas Past.
