Cricket has been disrupted in the Brigg area by Coronavirus emergency restrictions this year, but plans are already being made for 2021, with hopes that things will be back to normal by late spring.
The Lincolnshire County Cricket League held its annual meeting on Wednesday (November 19) via the internet's Zoom facility instead of the tradtional get-together of team representatives at the Market Rasen club's Rase Park headquarters.
During the 2021 campaign, Brigg Town - based at the Recreation Ground off Wrawby Road - will be taking part in the Lincs League, as will the Hibaldstow and Broughton clubs (the latter having two teams).
The league was unable to hold its showpiece annual dinner this year, but one is now arranged for Friday, April 9, 2021 at the traditional venue - Hemswell Court, near Caenby Corner - with our three local clubs likely to be represented on the night.
With the government delaying the start of the 2020 season which should have opened in mid-April, chairman Bob Welton oversaw a specially arranged competition which launched in early August and replaced the pre-arranged league fixtures. Brigg, Broughton and Hibaldstow opted to take part - giving them fixtures throughout the month.
Brigg Town Cricket Club can trace its history back to the early 19th century. It folded in the 1930s but was re-formed in autumn 1973 and began playing again the following May.
