BRIGG REFLECTIONS ON ANOTHER WEEKEND OF LOCKDOWN 2

Brigg enters another weekend of Lockdown 2 regulations today (Saturday, November 14) but remember that the town centre market will be open for business if you wish to stock up on fruit, veg and other foodstuffs.
As part of its Covid-19 guidance, North Lincolnshire Council stresses: "The outdoor markets at Ashby and Brigg, including the farmers' market, will be open for traders selling essential goods only."
The November farmers' event in Brigg will be held on November 28 - the fourth Saturday of the month.
Brigg's bars and all local shops not classed as essential by the government remain closed, with Lockdown 2 due to end on December 2.
Local sport has also been put on enforced hold, including local football matches involving Brigg and district clubs.
Town residents planning a clear out this weekend and wishing to dispose of unwanted items, should note the council's latest advice.
"Our household recycling centres are open as usual whilst national restrictions are in force," the authority says, "however we ask that only essential visits are made. If you see a long queue, consider returning another day if your visit is essential. We may have to close sites early and turn people away to maintain staff and visitor safety."
Last weekend, while the weather was foggy, we took an early morning walk down the Old River Ancholme towpath and nearby Ancholme Way footpath.
The aim was to take pictures of the new picnic tables and seats installed by Brigg Town Council on a grassy area between these walkways.
Across the water, on Island Carr, two cranes were evident at Glanford Boat Club, where members' craft are taken out of the river to spend the cooler months on dry land.
In years when thick mist has been absent and bright sunshine prevailed, we've photographed many 'Lifting Days' in autumn and also in spring when boats are returned to the water.
Glanford Boat Club was founded in 1934 - five years before the start of the Second World War - but in 2020, like other Brigg organisations, it has been subject to Coronavirus emergency restrictions. Ancholme Rowing Club, based on Manley Gardens, had to cancel showpiece events.
Some pleasure anglers are using the River Ancholme in Brigg during Lockdown 2 - social distancing being required.
