FOOTBALL ROUND-UP: BRIGG TOWN LOSE PROUD RECORD AS BRIGGENSIANS HAVE A THRILLER WITH THE VILLA!

Brigg Town Football Club's first league defeat of the season arrived yesterday (Saturday, October 31).
In their eighth outing of the campaign, the Zebras lost 3-2 to Armthorpe Welfare but remain third in ToolStation Northern Counties East Division One.
Town were soon two down. And although Alfie Usher and Reece Rewell scored in the second half, the visitors from South Yorkshire netted a decisive third goal after 71 minutes.
Another sizeable and socially-distanced crowd  - 259 at the EC Surfacing Stadium - was a positive factor for Town, being the highest of the day in the NCEL by a considerable margin.
In the EC Surfacing Scunthorpe & District League there were goals galore in yesterday's cup matches involving teams from the Brigg area.
Barnetby United, hosting Baltic Boys at Silver Street, won 3-0 in the first round of the Johnstone Insurance Sporting Shield. On the mark were Joe Scott, Cameron Hill and Will Forest. Match report below, with accompanying pictures seen here from Barnetby's Lee Fielden; Barnetby are in the black and white strip.
In the same competition, Briggensians lost 6-5, after extra time, in a thriller at New Holland Villa! The score was 5-5 after 90 minutes, with Ben Toyne (2), Scott Soulby, Matthew Eagles and an own goal finding the net for the Brigg side.
In the second week of the Nev Watson Nursing Cup, Barnetby United Reserves won 4-2 away to Limestone Rangers Reserves - scorers for the railway villagers being Oliver Frith (2), Shaun Clark and Joe Plaskitt.

BARNETBY BEAT BALTIC BOYS ON BLUSTERY DAY

Barnetby sealed a 3-0 win over division 2 newcomers The Baltic Boys on a blustery day at Silver Street in the 1st round of the Johnstone Insurance Sporting Shield.
It was a struggle for The Railwaymen on a day that started with high winds and lashing rain and ended with blue skies and Autumnal sunshine.
4 changes were made from the side that drew away to Brumby, and following last week's covid-related postponement Barnetby again started the game slowly. The Baltic Boys knocked the ball about neatly and pressured the Barnetby backline.
As with recent performances Barnetby worked their way into the game and following a flowing move down the left Brackenbury was chopped down. Greaves floated the resulting free kick into the box where Hill nodded the ball down to grateful skipper Joe Scott who smashed home his 1st goal for 3 years!
This settled Barnetby down and a quick break saw Hill get into the box where he was brought down. He picked himself up and drilled the ball home from spot for his 140th goal for the club, and his 3rd in as many games in the 2021-21 season.
2-0 up at the break and with the worst of the weather having passed,  Barnetby still struggled to get out of 1st gear. Though rarely threatened at the back, there was little urgency going forward and the ball was given away too easily.
The 3rd and final goal came from a rare moment of urgency, and when the ball fell to Will Forrest he calmly slotted home for his 1st of the season.
Baltic Boys had the ball in the net but the goal was chalked off for offside.
Barnetby did what they needed to do to progress and set up a home tie in round 2 with either Kingsway or Limestone, whose game was postponed yesterday.
