NEW BRIGG CHRISTMAS LIGHTS WILL HELP RAISE OUR SPIRITS

New Christmas lights provided by Brigg Town Council are now in place and will be illuminated from the end of this month.
Contractors have been busy erecting colourful LED-style bulbs at lofty locations throughout the town centre, and adding some new standalone festive features on poles/posts.
The showpiece and locally-sourced Christmas tree in the Market Place is also continuing and will be erected later.
Townsfolk will be able to get their first look at the new illuminations on Friday, November 27 when Brigg Town Council is to post live footage of the switch on through the internet (details, including time and link, to follow).
This will replace the traditional 5-4-3-2-1 countdown and button pressing usually carried out from a temporary stage in front of the Angel building.
Coronavirus emergency restrictions rule out mass gatherings, so the switch on ceremony and Christmas Fair have been cancelled.
Although only essential shops are permitted to open until early December, other premises will be trading again after Lockdown 2 ends. Many folk will then get to grips with shopping for Christmas presents to give to friends and family - getting tills ringing at small businesses across Brigg.

Back in the mid-1960s, traders and Brigg Urban District Council worked together to introduce the intitial array of Christmas illuminations.
Christmas lighting displays have continued, with the exception of dark periods of industrial dispute-related power cuts in the 1970s.
Over the past 20 years, many UK towns have given up providing mass lighting displays, but Brigg Town Council, to its credit, has stuck to the task.
This year's new set of illuminations will help to lift people's spirits as Christmas draws near in this difficult period.
While out and about in recent days, Brigg Blog has pictured parts of the 2020 display.
In the Little Butchery walkway off Wrawby Street, our eye was caught by an old-fashioned, wall-mounted metal lamp on the side wall of Scalinis restaurant and takeaway.
This feature would not have looked out of place in Victorian times - adding a Dickensian feel to the town centre.
It does not form part of the festive lighting display but does give a reminder of Christmas Past.
This lamp was out of action for some time but, in recent years, has been given a new lease of life by a modern LED lighting source.
Annie Fanny - the star of Scunthorpe's civic pantomime - has become an established and very popular feature of Brigg's on-stage Christmas lighting countdown in recent years, but won't be making a public appearance on November 27, 2020, to entertain young and old in the Market Place. However, Annie is offering families the chance to stage their own panto at home.
North Lincolnshire Council explains: "Most of us won’t be able to go and watch our usual panto this year (boo!!) but our very own pantomime dame, Annie Fanny, wants to make sure we don’t miss out, so she has produced a ‘Stay at home panto pack’ containing everything you need to put on your very own pantomime at home.
"The pack contains a poster, tickets, scripts, masks, backstage passes and much more. Why not use your teddies and action figures to play some of the parts? Just don’t let them get hold of a custard pie!
"Look out too for Annie Fanny’s ’12 Days of Christmas’ on her Facebook page during the festive season. Here's the link you'll need...
