Brigg Blog sought details from Network Rail and the Environment Agency about work in progress beside the Old River Ancholme (pictured here).
We previewed closure of Cadney Road to vehicular traffic last weekend ahead of Network Rail workers arriving at the bridge which carries the Sheffield-Barnetby-Cleethorpes line across the river.
When Brigg Blog paid a visit to the area earlier this week, contractors with heavy machinery were working near the bridge and along the river bank, while some employees from the Environment Agency were looking on from the Cadney side.
A temporary track/roadway has been created - stretching a considerable distance from the river bank across the adjoining field towards Mill Lane.
A spokesperson for Network Rail later told us: "Routine inspections are taking place at the bridge on Cadney Road/Elwes Street in Brigg.
"There is another road closure in place between 21:00 on Saturday 21 and 06:00 on Sunday 22 November.
"This is so teams can safely access the railway and carry out detailed examinations of the bridge.
"There is a signposted diversion for drivers. Access will be maintained for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists.
"We are carrying out bridge inspections. This is not connected to the work which is taking place on the riverbank."
A reply from the Environment Agency is awaited. We'll update this post with further information once received.
