BOOK ABOUT BRIGG SCHOOL ENJOYS A LONG SHELF LIFE

A popular book which wallows in Brigg nostalgia has now attained nostalgic status itself!
Ten years ago, in November 2010, we reviewed the work by a well-known Brigg teacher and local historian.
Brigg County Primary School 1963-1996, Through the Lens of John Holland, we reported, "is a collection of photographs taken by the author during his lengthy career as a teacher at what many of us always called Glebe Road School (now demolished and replaced by the new facility on Atherton Way)."
John (seen above with the clock) was a pupil at Brigg County Primary who moved on to Brigg Grammar, left to do his college training and later returned as a teacher at Glebe Road in 1963.
"His keen interest in taking pictures down the years made possible this delightful book, which reads like a Who’s Who of Brigg people and families. Turn page after page and you see the young faces of today’s adults," we said in November 2010.
"There are pictures of pupils in class, on school trips, taking part in sports and enjoying the swimming pool."
Staff also featured, including Reg Stocks, Brian Wass and Steve Pearce - Glebe Road school’s only head teachers over a 50-year period.
The book, costing £5.99, went on sale at Brigg Tourist Information Centre in the Buttercross and was also available from the Deli Diner, on Wrawby Street.
A few weeks ago, when Brigg Blog was invited to tour the refurbished Angel building in the town centre, we noticed John's book about the school on display within the library area. It has certainly enjoyed a long shelf life! The book can be seen here (below left)...
