TRIBUTE TO MATT TEES - GRIMSBY TOWN FOOTBALL LEGEND WHO ALSO PLAYED FOR BRIGG

Grimsby Town football legend Matt Tees, who also appeared for Brigg Town FC in the 1970s, has died - aged 81 - following a long battle with dementia.
A Scotsman who initially played north of the border for AirdrIe, the popular striker played for the Mariners in two spells and managed a goal every other game over almost 200 league appearances, either side of spells with Charlton and Luton. In his penultimate season, 1971/72, Matt netted 27 times as Grimsby won the Division Four championship.
He opened that campaign with a hat-trick in a 4-1 home derby win over Scunthorpe United which included a brilliant diving header from a narrow angle - a typical Matt Tees goal.
Our pictures show him during an appearance at Brigg Town's Hawthorns and also in action at Grimsby's Blundell Park.
Brigg Blog boarded a short-break bus trip in Cary Lane not many years ago and was pleasantly surprised to find that Matt was already aboard with his wife, May.
When we reached our hotel, he chatted about his time with Grimsby Town and his seasons in and near London.
Unfortunately, Alzheimer's Disease increasingly affected his memorY in later years.
He featured in a moving TV documentary presented by Alan Shearer about professional footballers from Matt's era who later suffered from the ravages of Alzheimer's.
The Mariners' supporters' club had a very active Brigg branch which ran buses to all home games during Matt's spells with the club.
