LINCOLNSHIRE DAY 2021: FOOD FOR THOUGHT IN BRIGG WITH SPECIAL FESTIVAL AND FLAGS FLYING

 

Brigg will be celebrating Lincolnshire Day in new ways tomorrow (Friday, October 1).
There will be a showpiece Food Fest in the town centre from noon to 8pm, with more than 20 traders taking part.
The county flag will be flying from a new flagpole on the side of the Buttercross, permission for the pole attached to this grade two listed building having recently been granted to Brigg Town Council.
A number of Brigg households will also be displaying county flags in the gardens of domestic premises.

The council says there will be stone-baked sourdough pizza from Yellowbelly Pizza Co, tapas and sangria from La Finca and a selection of homemade cakes and scones from Shipley’s Curiositeas.
Lots of FoodFest favourites also make a welcome return to the town, with pie and mash from Pie-o-neers, a hog roast from Hepy’s, gyros from Brads and German sausages from Come Dine with Me.
The FoodFest is part of the council’s Government-supported ‘Welcome back’ campaign, which encourages people to shop local and support businesses.
Regional produce on offer will include handmade fudge from Blue Gnu, cheese from Celebration Cheeses, honey from The Little Honey Bee and fresh fish from MJ Capps and Son.
Those with a sweet tooth will also be well catered for, with crepes and chocolate pots from The Crepe Company, cheesecakes and puddings from For Heaven’s Cakes and milkshakes from Sweet Memories.
As well as the fabulous food, there’ll be lots to keep the whole family entertained, with free rodeo bull rides and the opportunity to take photos with Optimus Prime and Bumblebee.
People will also have the chance to find out more about the facilities at Brigg Heritage Centre, meet volunteers from the Brigg Food Bank and the Brigg Police Team.
Cllr Carl Sherwood (Brigg & Wolds), cabinet member for safer, stronger communities – rural, said: “Events like the food festivals are so important to North Lincolnshire’s family-run businesses, that have adapted brilliantly to the challenges over the past 18 months. This a great chance for local people to show their support to them and rediscover our fantastic high streets.
“With such a great selection of street food on the menu, visitors to the Brigg FoodFest will be spoilt for choice - all I would say is make sure you arrive with an appetite!”
North Lincolnshire Council is offering fine support to our county's own special day in 2021, Brigg Blog notes.
In past years we have point out that Lincolnshire Day was being celebrated much more extensively in Lincoln and southerly parts of the old county than it was in some northern areas.
October 1 offers people resident in England's second largest county (by area) the opportunity to eat local dishes, stock up on food produced in the county and employ a few Lincolnshire dialect words and phrases to help keep this part of our heritage in use.
Folk can also reflect on the county's culture, including literature and music.
Coun Rob Waltham (Brigg & Wolds Ward), as the Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, recently met with Philip Jackson (North East Lincolnshire Council) and Martin Hill (Lincolnshire County Council) to discuss plans to join together for a Lincolnshire Day celebration on October 1 at Normanby Hall – "recognising all that is great about the county."
Coun Waltham said: “For many years there has been an invisible line when, in fact, we are all part of the same county – Lincolnshire. This is the first time the three councils will come together for Lincolnshire Day, and I am delighted it is being celebrated in such a way.”
Coun Hill, from Lincoln-based Lincolnshire County Council, said: “I’m also delighted that this year, for the first time, the leaders of North Lincolnshire Council, North East Lincolnshire Council and I will be joining together on October 1 to celebrate the whole of our great county on Lincolnshire Day. We have a shared heritage, and we’re working together for a shared future.”
A three-way cookery competition was also launched ahead of Lincolnshire Day.
North East Lincolnshire Council is looking for the best local breakfast dish, North Lincolnshire for the top lunch offering, and Lincolnshire County for a mouthwatering dinner course. Businesses were invited to submit their recipes, with the winners due to be announced by the local authorities tomorrow (October 1).
