BANNER HEADLINES STILL HAVE A PLACE IN BRIGG

It's good to see there is still a place in today's high tech era for traditional marketing methods in Brigg when it comes to publicising future events.
North Lincolnshire Council has been using banners to promote its Brigg Food Fest coming up on Lincolnshire Day (Friday, October 1) and to market the latest monthly Brigg Farmers' Market being held today (Saturday, September 25).
The 'Fest' sign (pictured above) adjoins the side entrance to the Buttercross, in the Market Place.
Printed posters from the council about the festival (running from noon to 8pm) have also been distributed and can be seen at locations within the town centre, including outside the Black Bull and at CuriosiTeas, both on Wrawby Street.
Banners promoting farmers' events are displayed every month on railings beside the A18 on Ancholme Way and near the Monument roundabout, being viewed by hundreds of passers-by.
The council also uses social media and its own informative website to promote forthcoming events, together with details of the surplus land and property it has available for sale or rent.
However, although a traditional banner promotes the Food Fest on one side of the Buttercross, the picture is different on the other side of the landmark building.
For a long time the council advertised the land and property it wished to sell or rent by placing printed colour posters inside two attractive display cases (seen below). However, these displays have now been empty for many weeks.
Some days ago we asked the council if this represented a change of policy; a reply is awaited.
A current link from the council's website, relating to rental opportunities, leads through to an entry about the auction building near Brigg railway station for which the authority has been trying to find a new operator for many months.
However, the printed details are not showcased at the Buttercross.
