There was considerable interest shown in Brigg Blog's preview of Broughton Cricket Club's end-of-season festival which involved a veterans' match featuring many well-known local sportsmen, including long-serving Brigg cricketer and footballer, Col Mumby.
A good number of the vets who took part went to school in Brigg or have lived or worked in our town.
The weather proved to be ideal on Saturday (September 18) and Broughton's Neil Simpson has kindly furnished Brigg Blog with the details, as well as supplying these pictures taken at his town's Rec Ground, off Scawby Road.
In the veterans' clash, Phil Glentworth's senior XI post 170 all-out in their 25 overs and then dismissed Broughton Under-15s for 145.
Vets who rolled back the years and did well with the bat before retiring back to the pavilion for a sit down were Mick Bunyan 29, brother Russ 30, Nigel Dobbs (the former Lincolnshire county wicketkeeper) 26 and Paul Clark 26. Quoted are the the runs scored, not their ages!
George Atkinson opened the bowling for the U15s and recorded impressive figures of three for five, while Chingiz Bikmurzin took two for 13.
In the juniors' reply, Sam Hayton made 29, while Jack Johnstone finished 27 not out. Russ Bunyan (three for 16) had the vets' best bowling figures.
Broughton U15s: Sam Hayton, Ben Fish, Jake Houldsworth, Jack Johnstone (captain), Steven Johnstone, George Atkinson, Oliver Hayward, Chingiz Bikmurzin, Jenson Kirk, Alex Heath, Reuben Kelly (wicketkeeper).
Broughton Veterans: Si Allcock, Ian Bunyan, Shaun Roper (ex-Brigg Town Cricket Club), Mick Bunyan, Col Mumby (ex-Brigg Town), Russ Bunyan, Steve Rayner, Nigel Dobbs (wicketkeeper), Phil Glentworth (captain), Paul Clark, Martin Wilson.
As Neil's pictures show, this new event, which also featured a Women's v Under-11s soft ball game, and refreshments was well-supported. Hopefully, another festival will be hosted next September if good weather prevails.
