PERMISSION SOUGHT TO PRUNE 'PROTECTED' BRIGG TREE

Applications relating to mature trees in Brigg continue to be submitted to the council for consideration. Some of these involve felling, but the latest is to prune a Sequoia within (and protected by) the Tree Preservation (Brigg) Order 1971.

The tree is at the front of 17 St Clares Walk - the cul-de-sac off Bigby Street. Works proposed includes reducing the spread, crown lifting, removing dead wood and cutting back ivy.
A detailed arboricultural report submitted with the application says the primary objective of reducing the protruding limbs is to prevent their failure by gaining a uniform crown profile.
"It’s clear from historical images that the tree has been stressed for a significant period of time," the report says. It makes reference to the tree having shed a number of significant limbs in the last few years.
North Lincolnshire Council is now considering this application, and Brigg Town Council will be consulted as part of the process.
The application indicates this tree is not within the Brigg Conservation Area.
Approval was recently granted to another applicant for a pine tree to be removed from a garden on Bigby Road within the Conservation Area. It is damaging nearby brickwork.
A decision is awaited on another application to fell two silver birch trees in the car park behind Bridge Street Surgery. These trees are also within the Conservation Area.
