A new location has been suggested if Brigg Town Council decides to add to the archways erected on College Yard and at the entrances to some other courtyards.
The Independent Brigg Line Rail Group, which campaigns for greater use of our town's Saturdays-only passenger train service, is proposing an archway is installed at the entrance to Station Road near the council offices and Albert Street.
"On our visits to Brigg we are very impressed with the new archway signage that have been put around the shopping area," the group has told the Town Council.
"We always believe first impressions count, and as many people are aware the issues around Station Road are not acceptable; an archway sign would enhance the entrance."
The group is also requesting a new "outside" noticeboard on the front of Hewson House, which could be used for the railway timetable and other information about local train services.
The Brigg Arches Project highlights the existence of courtyards containing niche businesses to people who are touring the town centre.
Sadly, there are many local folk who do not realise that Brigg railway station still has a passenger train service - reduced to Saturdays only since the early 1990s. So an archway would be beneficial in promoting this form of public transport.
We consider the rail group is on the right track with its request, although it does not involve promoting shops like the others in the scheme.
Brigg Town Council has only received this suggestion in recent days; the authority's next meeting will be held next Tuesday.
