New signs have been approved within the Brigg Conservation Area to help people locate places of interest, including a well-known eatery. They will be located at the rear of the Angel building (not a listed building), overlooking the car park.
North Lincolnshire Council, through an officer based in Scunthorpe, sought advertisement consent for two display screens and three signs.
There were no objections lodged by Brigg Town Council or the general public.
The North Lincolnshire authority's planning department looked at the application in depth, and permission has now been granted.
A delegated assessment report concluded: "These signs are not considered to be obtrusive or alien features within the Brigg conservation area. The position to the rear is not considered to impact of the setting of listed buildings and the signage doesn’t obstruct any key views into the conservation area identified within the Brigg Conservation Area Appraisal and Supplementary Planning Guidance."
"The plans show two of the three wall-mounted signs (Café Courtyard and Brigg Heritage Centre) will be positioned to the left of the entrance when approaching from the car park, and the third sign will be positioned above the entrance (The Angel).
"These signs measure 0.5m x 0.3m each and will be finished in a variety of heritage colour blends; these are considered appropriate in both scale and colour to the building on which they are proposed.
"The consultation response from the Conservation Officer recommends these signs are constructed from aluminium rather than vinyl; this will ensure they respect the character and appearance of both the building and the Brigg conservation area and will ensure the signage is consistent with that which already exists elsewhere within the conservation area."
A planning condition has been added that aluminium must be used, as recommended by the Conservation Officer.
