BEACON OF LIGHT AHEAD FOR BRIGG

Brigg Town Council has agreed to install a beacon near the town centre which can be lit to mark major national and local events. It will be located on the tall earth mound which forms the centrepiece of the Millennium Green, off Elwes Street.
There used to be two beacons at the entrance to Station Road, near the Hewson House office block, but they were taken down some time ago.
Coun Carl Sherwood reminded colleagues attending the Town Council's latest meeting that Brigg was without a beacon at present.
Coun Rob Waltham said it could be used to "record events" while Coun Jane Kitching added that a couple of royal events had passed without Brigg having a beacon to light.
Coun Penny Smith considered the installation to be a very good idea. Although wishing the Queen to reign for many more years, Coun Smith said: "One day there will be a Coronation."
Coun Carl Sherwood suggested costings should be obtained for the beacon to be considered at a future meeting.
New benches and litter bins have also been suggested for the Millennium Green, which Coun Sherwood said was now being well used.
