BRIGG CONSERVATION AREA TREES CAN BE FELLED

Two trees can now be felled within the Brigg Conservation Area, following a recent ruling.

North Lincolnshire Council, the local planning authority, has decided not to make a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) on the silver birches within the rear car park of Bridge Street Surgery. Through an agent the surgery gave notice of intention to fell the trees.

The decision, just announced, means that both birches can be removed.
A North Lincolnshire Council assessment report explained: "These trees are situated to the rear of the property and are not visible from Bridge Street, however can be seen from the main road A18 but are not significant within the street or wider landscape.
"It is noted that Brigg Town Council objected to the intended works as the trees were not in a poor condition and wished the application to be refused.
"These conservation area applications do not, however, give the option of refusal, only to make a TPO on the trees or not.

"As the trees do not give high amenity value to the street scene or wider landscape, the main reasons for giving the trees further protection, then the decision to not  make a TPO should stand."
A site notice was displayed during the consultation period; one resident contacted North Lincolnshire Council to express support for the trees' removal.
Announcing its decision, the unitary authority told the applicant's agent: "On this occasion the council has decided not to make a Tree Preservation Order. You may therefore carry out the work described, provided that it is completed within two years."
