Brigg Blog has passed a distinctive town centre building countless times since it was put up on the market many months ago - often checking the sign above the frontage in the hope of some positive news about its future use. A 'Sold' sign is has now gone up on the frontage.
Back on June 23, 2017, HSBC closed its Brigg Branch for ever - at precisely 2.30pm. Also lost to the town was HSBC's handy cashpoint in the Market Place.
We posted at the time: "HSBC has apologised to customers for the inconvenience. Business is being switched to the big branch on Scunthorpe High Street. But what does the future hold for this attractive and sizeable Brigg branch building within the conservation area?"
Having been placed on the property market for sale or to let, it has eventually changed hands.
The grade two listed building was advertised on the market as having a substantial former banking hall with offices, rear car parking and outbuildings.
It was suggested in 2018 that the property would lend itself to a variety of retail, office, leisure and possibly residential uses, subject to planning permission being obtained.
Last summer an application to convert and change the use of the first and second floor to form four residential apartments at 27 Market Place, and upgrade a rear parking area, was approved by North Lincolnshire Council.
